I could give a really long story on this one... but...
Diwali is the Festival of Lights for (most) Indians and is all about good beating evil: light beating dark.
I've always thought of it as Indian Christmas (that's English Christmas not American Christmas!). (Round here we seem to celebrate it in a similar way: Not quite as drunk...very garish)
Sometimes it good to come from Leicester.
