Nearly two pounds of still-green plant material found in a 2,700-year-old grave in the Gobi Desert has just been identified as the world's oldest (known) marijuana stash, the marijuana "is quite similar" to what's grown today, the marijuana came from a cultivated strain.

The cannabis, which was excavated at the Yanghai Tombs near Turpan, China. It was found lightly pounded in a wooden bowl in a leather basket near the head of a blue-eyed Caucasian man who died when he was about 45.

This individual was buried with an unusual number of high value, rare items, including a make-up bag, bridles, pots, archery equipment and a kongou harp. The researchers believe the individual was a shaman from the Gushi people, who spoke a now-extinct language called Tocharian that was similar to Celtic.

Halloween Tricks

I always loved Halloween as a child. We dressed up (in whatever we could make scary) and bobbed for apples.

We ran around pretending to scare each other and then listened to ghost stories.....

Now these ghost stories were really scary, by the time we went to bed we were nervous wrecks and promptly had nightmares....It was great.

So kids, remember this you Disneyfied woosies. At dusk tonight the Day of the Dead begins (spooks and spirits have no idea the day now begins at midnight), it is very serious to your ancestors, especially the more evil ones.

The front-page commentary in the overseas edition of the People's Daily said that Asian and European countries should banish the U.S. dollar from their direct trade relations for a start, relying only on their own currencies.

A meeting between Asian and European leaders, starting on Friday in Beijing, presented the perfect opportunity to begin building a new international financial order, the newspaper said.
The People's Daily is the official newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party. The Chinese-language overseas edition is a small circulation offshoot of the main paper.

Its pronouncements do not necessarily directly voice leadership views. But the commentary, as well as recent comments, amount to a growing chorus of Chinese disdain for Washington's economic policies and global financial dominance in the wake of the credit crisis.

"The grim reality has led people, amidst the panic, to realize that the United States has used the U.S. dollar's hegemony to plunder the world's wealth," said the commentator, Shi Jianxun, a professor at Shanghai's Tongji University.

The Roma Gypsies

On the 16th of this month there will be an EU conference regarding the Roma Gypsies.

Free Tibet?

I've just watched a couple of very privileged Brits protest with banners in Beijing claiming they wish to see Tibet free.

Free to do what?

Do they really wish to see a nasty theocratic feudalism enforced upon the poor folk of Tibet?

Do they really wish to see people turned into ignorant slaves for a few wealthy aristocrats and monks?

The arrogance of these protesters makes me fume and when they are reincarnated (tee hee) I hope they come back as a chattel, tilling the soil all day hopelessly ignorant of all but submission.

Oh and as for protesting in theocratic Tibet, the punishments for serfs, which included gouging out eyes, cutting off ears, hands and feet, pulling out tendons were rather unpleasant.

Is this what they really want?

Tibeten culture needs to be expunged just as Norman feudalism and American plantation slavery needed to be.

The Power of Prayer

This tickled me.

In a small Texas town, ( Mt. Vernon ) Drummond’s bar began construction on a new building to increase their business. The local Baptist church started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayers.

Work progressed right up till the week before opening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building’s demise in its reply to the court.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork. At the hearing he commented, “I don’t know how I’m going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not.

It's summer!

Just when I was expecting a load of pervert baiting from the rags and the BoreBC, it appears that knife crime will be our summer panic this year.. (Obviously not enough guns being used).

As a someone who comes from an age when carrying and using a knife (or screwdriver) really was common, I find this hysteria almost amusing.

I noted many years ago that Journos and other middle class kids live their childhood so sheltered that it really does come as a shock when they discover the brutality of many poor folks' early lives.

p.s. For extra hospital time the wound would sometimes be splintered, this requires rough wood being inserted into the wound to cause infection... Just don't tell the press.
